Freedom’s Statement on Recent Events
At Freedom, we have paused our communications as events unfolded following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We watched with a heavy heart, not wanting to dilute an important conversation with messaging from a brand. But it has become clear that being quiet is a privilege in itself, and we can not in good conscience stay on the sidelines anymore.
The murder of George Floyd, and the murders of Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, Ahmaud Arbery, Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, and others are outrages against civil society. These murders, and countless other acts of physical and symbolic violence are the product of a racist society. One that has not done the necessary work to foster inclusion and equality.
At Freedom, we believe that Black Lives Matter. We stand with protestors in cities big and small, around the globe, calling for a more equitable society. We will do the work required to adjust our internal compass to ensure that Freedom is a company that fosters equity. And we will endeavor to work with companies whose values align with our own, and whose actions do not incite racism or other hateful behaviors.
We have built a company on an understanding that technology is not value-neutral. At Freedom, we are used to helping people turn off the noise. But clearly, this is a time to be engaged and vigilant.
Freedom is not just a company – but a community – and we encourage your input. If there’s anything you think we can do better, please let us know. We’re listening.
